You don't have to catch AI's mistakes yourself…
…Get it to flag them for you.
AI Blind Spots — Part 6 of 7
You don't need to fact-check everything AI gives you.
You need AI to tell you what to fact-check.
That's a different job. It takes five minutes to set up, once.
Most people treat AI like a finished product.
They read the output, they use the output, they find out later the output was wrong.
The fix isn't checking everything. That defeats the purpose of using AI in the first place.
The fix is changing what AI gives you.
Here's the reframe:
AI isn't a final answer machine. It's a first draft machine.
A good AI-generated first draft tells you where it's uncertain, so you know exactly where to look before you act on anything.
You just have to ask it to do that once, and set it to happen automatically.
Here's how.
Five minutes, one time.
Go to your AI settings.
For Claude AI: Under Settings > General > Instructions for Claude
For ChatGPT: Personalization > Custom Instructions
Look for something simalar in whatever AI tool you’re using.
Add a line like:
"If you're uncertain about any part of your response, flag it clearly so I know what to verify. Prioritize accuracy over confidence."
Now every response comes with its own weak spots already marked. You're not checking everything. You're checking the things it already told you to check.
Does this work perfectly every time?
No, and keep that in mind.
AI can still miss its own uncertainty. This a tendency shift, not a guarantee. But it catches enough that you'll notice the difference immediately.
