Mistake #1: Outdated information

AI is trained up to a certain point in time. After that, nothing.

So if you ask about something that changed recently, like a price, a policy, a law, or research, and don’t ask AI to verify with a current date, it will still answer confidently, based on how things used to be.

It won't tell you the information is old. It'll just answer.

How to spot it: Ask AI when it was last updated, or add "as of today" to your question and see if it admits any doubt.

Mistake #2: Hallucinated specifics

This one surprises people the most.

AI will sometimes generate details that don't exist. Names, statistics, quotes, sources. All invented.
All stated as fact.

The dangerous part isn't that it happens. It's how real it looks when it does.

How to spot it: any time AI gives you a specific number, name, or source, verify these independently.

Mistake #3: Confident generalization

AI is trained on patterns across millions of sources. So its default answer is often the average answer, the most typical case, or the most common situation.

That may not be your situation at all.

How to spot it: if it feels like a one-size-fits-all answer, ask what changes for your specific case
